Bassoon = maple, NOT grenadilla. Maple = softer, more porous. Cracks less than grenadilla (clarinet/oboe), but still possible! Especially with sudden temperature changes. Boot joint = most common (complex construction with two bore channels).

1. Boot joint ⭐ = most common! U-shaped bore = stress. Especially near joints. 2. Wing joint = less common. 3. Long joint = less common. 4. Bell = rarest. Check UNDER keys and at tenon locks!
