This is one of the few sets where the G is pulled tighter than the D — and that is exactly where the Original bottom end gets support instead of rumble.

How The Tension Is Spread Across Four Voices

The E carries 7.3 kg / 16.06 lbs, because a plain steel monofilament has no other way to survive bow pressure in the upper positions — below that it hisses instead of speaking. From there the drop is not even: A at 5.5 / 12.1, D at 4.0 / 8.80, then the G back up at 4.5 / 9.90. The most lightly tensioned string in the set is the D, which you feel as an easy, quick response in the middle register, while the G keeps a reserve so it does not collapse at forte. A, D and G all sit on the same multi-filament nylon core — the metal on top is what separates the voices. The G is wound with pure silver, which is denser, and that mass is what gives the bottom body and support. Everything else in the line is built up from single strings. The 24k gold-plated E SV225106 runs at the same 7.3 kg / 16.06 lbs, so it drops in without rebalancing anything; the silver D SV225135 (4.7 / 10.34) makes the middle, in the maker's words, warmer and more colourful; and there is a Violin II A with a solid steel core (6.2 / 13.64) for higher projection and a longer working life. Every voice in the line also exists in strong, which the maker describes as a fuller tone with more resistance under the fingers.
