Types of clarinet and saxophone ligatures
A ligature holds the reed against the mouthpiece table. Accurate fit supports a reliable seal, stable reed position, comfortable articulation and predictable response.

Clarinet ligatures
Separate sizes for Bb, Eb, alto and bass clarinet, including French- and German-system mouthpieces. The instrument name alone does not guarantee fit; the exact mouthpiece model matters.

Saxophone ligatures
Soprano, alto, tenor and baritone ligatures use different diameters. Also account for the mouthpiece material and outer profile: hard rubber, metal or another composite.

Classic and modern designs

How to choose a ligature

Specify Bb, Eb or bass clarinet, or soprano, alto, tenor or baritone saxophone. These sizes are not interchangeable.

A natural or synthetic reed should sit flat. Articulation, resistance and tone depend on the complete setup: player, mouthpiece, reed and ligature.

Metal mouthpieces
They are often narrower than hard rubber, but geometry varies by maker and model. Choose a version explicitly listed as compatible by the manufacturer.
Correct fit
With the reed installed, pressure should be even across the table. The ligature must not cover the vibrating vamp or contact the mouthpiece tip.
