It depends on the task. RGB gives basic colours, but the "white" mixed from RGB comes out bluish and thin. RGBW adds a dedicated white LED — clean white and softer pastel shades; this is the standard for stage wash. RGBWA+UV adds Amber and ultraviolet: warm skin tones, rich pastels and UV effects for parties — the format for clubs and rental. If you do not need colours (conferences, pavilions, video shoots), choose white WW/CW fixtures with adjustable 2700–6500K temperature and high CRI — they deliver better white light for the same money. How many fixtures do I need for a stage or backdrop?

As a rule of thumb, count from the zone width. For even stage coverage, wash fixtures are placed roughly every 1.5–2 m across the width — so a 6–8 m stage usually needs 4–6 fixtures at the front, ideally with as many again as backlight for depth. For a cyclorama, linear bars join almost end to end: a 6 m backdrop takes about six one-metre bars at the bottom or top. Floodlights for open areas are sized by lumens and rigging height. Several medium-power fixtures beat one powerful unit: evenness matters more than peak brightness. Q: How does a wash differ from a spot?

A spot produces a narrow focused beam with a visible edge — it highlights a performer or object and projects gobos. In practice a rig is built from both: wash fixtures set the background and colour, spots add accents. If the budget is limited and you must start with one, start with wash: a stage without even coverage looks dark even with bright spots working on it. Q: What is cyclorama lighting?

Cyclorama lights (cyc lights) are dedicated fixtures for evenly lighting backdrops and horizons: fabric cycloramas in theatres, backgrounds in TV studios, walls in showrooms. Their key feature is asymmetric optics: the fixture sits right against the backdrop at the bottom or hangs at the top, and the beam is distributed so brightness stays even across the whole height of the cloth, with no hot spot near the fixture. Modern LED cyc lights are usually linear RGBW or RGBWA+UV bars about a metre long that join into a continuous line along the backdrop. The quantity is calculated from the cloth width. Q: What IP rating do I need?

The IP rating shows protection against dust and moisture. For indoor use — stages, clubs, theatres — standard IP20 fixtures are enough. For open-air venues, festivals, facade lighting and outdoor work you need IP65 fixtures: they are sealed, unafraid of rain and dust, and have protected connectors. Note that the IP65 version of the same fixture is heavier and more expensive, so paying extra for outdoor protection in a club makes no sense — and conversely, taking IP20 out into the rain is not acceptable even "just once". For rental companies working both indoors and outdoors, IP65 is a sound investment. We will suggest the version for your operating conditions.
