Stage lifts & hoists — raise light, sound and trusses to height
Stage lifts are equipment for raising and holding light, sound, trusses, banners and decor at height: wind-up stands with a crank for fixtures and small trusses, lifting towers for ground-support truss portals, and chain hoists and winches (manual and electric) for flying trusses from above. They let you raise heavy equipment safely without a crane. At SoundsGood you'll find Guil, Fantek, Milos, CM Lodestar, ChainMaster and other brands, official warranty, delivery across Ukraine and Prozorro tenders. Since lifting is often over people, load capacity, stability and certification are critical. We'll advise a lift for your weight, height and task.

🏗️ Types of lifts
📶 Wind-up stands
Telescopic with a crank — mobile stands with a T-bar top for lifting light, sound and small trusses. Guil, Fantek.
🗼 Lifting towers
For ground-support portals — powerful towers with a carriage and outriggers for raising truss structures. Milos, Global Truss.
⛓️ Chain hoists and winches
Manual and electric — for flying trusses and equipment from above, from a roof or truss bridge. CM Lodestar, ChainMaster, Yale.
🪝 Lifting accessories
Rigging — spreader bars, slings, hooks, shackles and adapters for safe lifting. Guil, GIS.
🆚 Lift types by drive and load
Drive and load capacity determine the use. Here's a guide.
| Type | Drive | Load | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wind-up stand | Hand crank | Light–medium | Light, sound, small trusses |
| Lifting tower | Crank / winch | Medium–heavy | Ground-support portals |
| Chain hoist (elec.) | Electric motor | Heavy | Flying trusses from above |
| Manual hoist/winch | Manual | Light–medium | Point lifting, tensioning |

🔍 What to look for when choosing
⚖️ Load capacity & height
The rated SWL must exceed the equipment weight with a margin, and the maximum lift height must suit the venue.
🔌 Drive type
A hand crank or manual hoist is cheaper and needs no power; an electric motor is faster and stronger, for large stages and touring. Often combined.
🦿 Stability & outriggers
For stands and towers, base, outriggers, counterweights and wind load outdoors matter — they prevent tipping.
🛡️ Certification & safety
For lifting over people, hoists of class D8+ or C1 are required. Calculation and assembly are for rigging specialists.

❓ Frequently asked questions
What are stage lifts and why are they needed?
Equipment for raising and holding light, sound, trusses, banners and decor at height: wind-up stands (telescopic with a crank), lifting towers (for ground-support truss portals) and chain hoists and winches (manual and electric) for flying from above. They let a crew raise heavy equipment safely without a crane. Since lifting is often over people, load capacity, stability and certification are critical.
How does a wind-up stand differ from a tower?
A wind-up stand is a telescopic tripod with a crank and T-bar top for light, small trusses or speakers; mobile, for a light-medium load. A lifting tower is stronger and taller, for erecting ground-support truss portals with outriggers and counterweights. For individual fixtures take a stand, for heavy portals a tower.
What is a chain hoist and when is it needed?
A lifting mechanism that raises and holds a load on a chain; manual and electric (with a motor). Hoists are used when equipment is hung from above — from a roof or truss bridge: the motor raises a truss with fixtures. Electric ones suit large stages, manual ones point lifting. For lifting over people, certified hoists of class D8+ or C1 are required.
Manual or electric lifting — which to choose?
Depends on weight, height and rigging frequency. Manual (crank, manual hoist) is cheaper, no power, for lighter equipment and infrequent installs. Electric (motors) is faster, lifts more, for large stages and touring, but pricier and needs power. Often combined: crank stands for individual lights and electric hoists for heavy trusses.
How to calculate load capacity and height?
Add up the total equipment weight with a margin, choose a lift whose SWL exceeds it and whose height suits the venue. For stands and towers account for stability: base, outriggers, counterweights and wind. For hoists — chain length and attachment point. Calculation of the load-bearing structure is for a rigging specialist. Don't exceed rated loads.
Can you lift a load over people?
It's a heightened risk requiring specially certified equipment. For electric hoists — classes D8+ (double brake) or C1 (holding over people with a safety factor). An ordinary industrial hoist without certification is not intended for work over people. Correct rigging, safety cables and a specialist's calculation are also needed. People's safety comes first.
How much do lifts cost?
A wide range: manual stands are the most affordable, towers for trusses pricier, electric hoists (motors) the most expensive, especially those certified for work over people. The price depends on load capacity, height, drive, brand and safety class. Rigging is added separately. Check current prices with a manager.
