Rectifier tube — converts AC to DC for amp power. Reacts slower than diodes — voltage "sags" on hard pick attack. This is "sag" — soft compression, "springiness". Tone becomes "breathing", vintage.

Tube: sag, compression, softness, "springy". Silicon diodes: instant reaction, tight, more headroom. Vintage Fender (Tweed, Deluxe), Vox AC30 — tube rectifier. Modern Marshall, Mesa — diodes (that's why they're "tight").
