🎛️ What Is a Matrix Mixer

🔀 Routing

Any input → any output at any level. BT → hall 80% + terrace 50%. Mic → hall only. BGM → WC only. Fire paging → all zones. A sound router for the entire venue.

🏢 Who For

Restaurants (hall, bar, terrace, kitchen, WC). Hotels (lobby, restaurant, conference, pool, gym, corridors). Malls (floors, zones, food court, parking). Conference centres. Churches. Offices. Gyms.

📦 Format

Rack-mount (1U–3U, 19"). In utility cabinet. 24/7 unattended. Control: wall panels, app, web. Staff pick source and volume — no access to technical settings.

🔀 How the Matrix Works

📐 N × M

N inputs × M outputs (zones). 8×8 = 8 sources, 8 zones. Each input has a level control per output. Visually: a grid — rows are inputs, columns are zones, each cell is a level.

🎵 Example

Restaurant, 4 zones: BT → hall 80%, bar 60%, terrace 50%, WC 30%. Mic → hall 100%. USB → WC 100%. Fire → all 100%, everything else muted.

🔌 Zone Mix

Each zone receives a mix from multiple sources. DSP: EQ for room acoustics, limiter, delay. Every zone sounds optimal.

🎛️ DSP Processing

📊 On Inputs

Gain. 48 V. Parametric EQ (3–10 bands). Compressor. Noise gate. Auto-mixer (for conferences).

📊 On Outputs

Parametric EQ. Limiter. Delay. Crossover (top+sub). Ducker/paging — auto-duck music on announcement.

🔊 Priorities

Level 1: fire → mute all, paging all zones. Level 2: evacuation. Level 3: manager mic (ducking). Level 4: BGM. Automatic.

🔌 Inputs

🎤 Mic / Line

XLR + jack. Phantom 48 V. 4–16 analogue. Combo: mic or line per input.

📱 BT / USB / Streaming

Bluetooth — music from phone. USB — MP3 or laptop. Streaming module (some): Spotify, AirPlay, Chromecast. BT is a must-have for restaurants.

🌐 Dante

Network audio input via Ethernet. From other mixers, stage boxes, media servers. For large venues. One cable = dozens of channels.

🔊 Outputs & Zones

📐 Line Outputs

4–16 line (XLR/Euroblock). Each = one zone → zone amplifier 70V/100V or low-Z.

⚡ Built-In Amps

Some: combo mixer-amp. 4–8 zones × 20–120 W. 70V or low-Z. All in one box. For smaller venues.

🌐 Dante Outputs

Digital → network amplifiers. One Ethernet cable. Amp near speakers. Scalability.

📱 Control

🖲️ Wall Panels

Volume + source select per zone. Simple (knob + buttons) or touch (LCD). Cat5e from mixer.

📱 Mobile App

Phone/tablet via Wi-Fi. Source, volume, presets. Access limits: bartender sees own zone, manager sees all.

💻 Web & Integration

Web interface: full DSP setup. Crestron/Control4/AMX: one panel = lights + sound + climate. GPI/GPO for triggers.

⏰ Automation

📅 Scheduling

Auto-change sources, volume, presets by time. Morning: quiet jazz. Lunch: louder + terrace. Evening: different playlist. Night: auto-off. No staff needed.

🔊 Presets

"Morning", "Lunch", "Party", "Conference", "Banquet". One press → routing, volume, EQ of all zones reconfigured instantly.

🛡️ Priorities

Level 1: fire. Level 2: evacuation. Level 3: manager mic (ducking). Level 4: BGM. Automatic.

⚡ Amplifiers

🔊 70V/100V

Separate or multi-channel (4/8 ch). 20–250 W/zone. Rack-mount beside mixer.

⚡ Low-Z

For powerful zones (dance floor): 4/8 Ω. More bass, higher SPL. To mixer line output.

🌐 Dante Amps

Network amps: audio via Dante. One Ethernet. Amp near speakers. For large venues.

🌐 Dante & Network

📐 Why

Large hotel: multiple mixers (per floor) linked by Dante. Central control. Shared sources. One media server → all zones. Scalability.

🔌 Architecture

Mixer (Dante) → switch → Dante amps throughout venue. Or: Dante stage box (inputs) → Ethernet → mixer → amps. All on Cat6. Remote diagnostics.

⚖️ Matrix vs Regular Mixer

✅ Matrix

Any → any. Independent zones. DSP. Priorities, ducking. Scheduling. Wall panels. Crestron. 24/7. For installations.

⚠️ Limitations

Pricier. Complex setup (needs installer). Not for live mixing. Less "creative" control.

🎯 When Matrix

2+ zones. Different sources per zone. Automation needed. Staff control (panels, app). Paging priority. Permanent installation.
