LED PAR or a classic lamp PAR 64?

Classic PAR 64s with halogen lamps were the stage standard for decades, but today LED has won on every count. A PAR lamp produced one colour (others required gel filters that burn out), drew 500–1000 W, heated the stage heavily and needed dimmer systems. An LED PAR draws 5–10 times less power, mixes any colour without gels, dims with its own electronics without external dimmer packs, does not roast the performers and lasts tens of thousands of hours. The warm "tungsten" tint can be reproduced with the amber channel or dedicated vintage modes. Lamp PARs today make sense only for retro aesthetics. For new rigs we firmly recommend LED.

RGBW or RGBWA+UV — which mix to choose?

RGBW is the standard for most tasks: red, green and blue plus a dedicated white LED give clean white, rich saturated colours and decent pastels. For stages, bands and rental it is usually enough. RGBWA+UV adds two channels: Amber greatly improves warm shades — skin tones, candlelight, banquet gold; UV makes white and fluorescent fabrics, paints and decor glow — a popular party effect. Six-colour PARs cost a little more but are more flexible, which is why wedding decorators and clubs love them. If the budget allows, take RGBWA+UV; for simple tasks RGBW handles everything. How many PARs do I need for a stage?

The rule of thumb is a 1.5–2 m step across the zone width. A small stage or a band gig in a bar (4–6 m): 4 PARs at the front on a T-bar stand is the minimum working kit, and another 2–4 behind as backlight add depth. A medium 8–10 m stage: 6–8 fixtures at the front plus as many for backlight. For hall uplighting, PARs stand on the floor right against the wall every 2–3 m around the perimeter — a banquet hall usually takes 8–16 fixtures. More medium-power fixtures beat a few super-powerful ones: evenness and scene flexibility matter more. Slim PAR or classic housing?

Flat Slim PARs weigh under a kilogram or so, pack by the dozen into a compact case and tuck neatly against walls for uplighting — which is why mobile DJs, decorators and small stages adore them. The downsides: less power per fixture and more modest cooling. Classic full-bodied PARs in cylindrical or die-cast housings carry more powerful LED arrays, better heatsinks and endure daily rental and big stages; they also look more at home on truss. The practical rule: for off-site events, wall lighting and small venues — Slim; for permanent stages, clubs and heavy rental use — classic. We will suggest the balance for your tasks.

How do I uplight hall walls with PARs?

Uplighting is the technique of placing PARs on the floor right against a wall with the beam pointing up, instantly dressing the hall in colour. It is simple: fixtures go around the perimeter every 2–3 m, the housing tilts slightly towards the wall, and one colour is set across all units to match the event palette. Classic venues take warm amber tones; parties take saturated colours or slow colour fades. Battery-powered PARs are the most convenient here: no cables across the floor, control from a console or an app, and the magnetic barn doors on some models cut spill onto the floor. PARs are the most budget-friendly category of stage lighting. Entry-level compact Slim PARs are inexpensive, and first rigs are usually built from them.
