PAR 64, 56 and 36 — what's the difference?

The number in the PAR name historically denotes the housing diameter in eighths of an inch: PAR 64 is 64/8 = 8 inches (about 20 cm), the largest and most powerful; PAR 56 is medium; PAR 36 is compact. The larger the housing, the more powerful the light and wider the beam, but also the greater the weight and price. PAR 64 is chosen for large stages and concerts, PAR 36 for decor, small venues and accents. Slim versions are thinner than classic ones by the same 'can' logic. RGB, RGBW or RGBWA+UV in a PAR?

These are colour-mixing systems in an LED PAR. RGB (red, green, blue) gives bright saturated colours — the basic and cheapest option. RGBW adds a white LED for clean white and pastel shades. RGBWA+UV also has amber and ultraviolet, providing the widest palette, warm tones and UV effects. The more colours, the richer and more accurate the picture, but the higher the fixture price. For stage, RGBW is usually optimal; for rich shows — RGBWA+UV. We'll suggest a colour system for your scenes.

COB or SMD LEDs in a PAR?

In an SMD PAR, many separate LEDs of different colours are installed — they give rich mixing, but up close can create several colour shadows from one object. A COB PAR has one large LED chip that gives an even homogeneous beam without multi-colour shadows and pleasant flood light, often brighter. SMD is better for colour effects and a pointed look, COB — for even wash and white light. We'll advise which type suits your tasks. We'll suggest COB or SMD for your format.

Which beam angle to choose?

The beam angle determines how widely a PAR spreads light. A narrow angle gives a concentrated bright beam for accents and long distances, a wide one — a soft wash of a large area up close. Many LED PARs have a fixed angle, but for some, interchangeable lenses or diffuser filters are available. Choose the angle by the distance to the object and the desired coverage: for stage wash — wider, for accent — narrower. We'll help pick the optics for your venue. Slim/flat or classic PAR?

A slim (flat) PAR has a thin flat housing — it's lighter, more compact and convenient for mobile venues, uplighting along walls and installation in limited space; many such models have a battery. A classic can-shaped PAR is usually more powerful and gives a denser beam, valued for large stages and concerts.
