An LED bar is a linear fixture in the form of a rigid strip with LEDs along its whole length. Unlike point fixtures, it gives light as a band, so it's handy for even wash of backdrops and walls, lighting a stage in a line and creating effects. Bars come as wash for solid colour, pixel for separate effects, theatrical battens for soft light, and special ones — UV or with beams. It's a versatile tool for stage, club and decor. We'll suggest a bar type for your tasks and stage size.

A wash bar lights as one solid band of colour — it's needed for an even wash of a backdrop, wall or stage in one tone, with smooth colour change. A pixel bar has segments that can be controlled separately: this gives chase effects, patterns, waves and even simple animations along the length of the fixture. Wash is simpler and cheaper, pixel is more expressive and dynamic but needs more control channels. Both types are often combined on stage. We'll suggest what's better for your show style. We'll suggest wash or pixel for your stage.

How many segments or pixels to choose?

The number of segments determines the detail of effects: few segments give simple chases, while many pixels give smooth gradients and detailed animations. However, more pixels means more DMX channels and more complex programming, so focus on the real needs of the show. For a simple wash with light effects, a few segments are enough, while for complex pixel productions bars with high resolution and pixel-mapping are used. We'll help balance impressiveness and control complexity. We'll suggest a resolution for your show level.

What are LED bars used for?

LED bars are versatile. Wash bars light backdrops, cycloramas, walls and stage with even colour, creating a background and atmosphere. Pixel bars add dynamics: chases, waves, patterns and eye-candy on the dance floor. Theatrical battens give soft even light for performances, and UV bars make fluorescent materials glow at parties. Bars are placed on the floor, hung on a truss or mounted vertically as decor. It's a flexible tool for stage, club, TV and decoration. We'll suggest a set of bars for your venue. We'll suggest a configuration for your stage.

How to control LED bars?

LED bars are controlled over DMX: wash ones like ordinary fixtures, and pixel ones via separate channels for each segment or pixel-mapping from a controller or software. Simpler models have built-in presets, auto mode and sound activation for working without a console, and Master/Slave mode synchronises several bars with each other. For complex pixel shows it's better to use a full console or media server. We'll suggest a convenient control method for your scenario and number of fixtures. We'll suggest control for your set of bars.

Q: What is pixel control?

Pixel control means each segment (pixel) of the bar is controlled separately, not the whole fixture at once. Thanks to this, along the length of the bar you can run chases, gradients, waves, patterns and synchronised animations, including via pixel-mapping from several fixtures. The more pixels, the smoother and more detailed the effects, but the more DMX channels are needed for control. Pixel bars are especially striking at club and concert shows. We'll suggest fixtures with the resolution you need and compatible control. We'll suggest a pixel solution for your show.
