Snare drums 14″
Wood and metal snare drums — Pearl, Ludwig, Tama, Yamaha
A 14″ snare drum is the heart of a drum kit and the most versatile snare size. Wood ones (maple, birch, walnut) give a warm balanced sound; metal ones (steel, brass, aluminium) a brighter, louder and crisper one. Depth of 5–6.5″ defines the body of the sound. A separate snare is the most noticeable upgrade for a kit, since it shapes the character of the playing. At SoundsGood — Pearl, Ludwig, Tama, Yamaha, Mapex for upgrade, studio and stage. Genuine instruments with a warranty, delivery across Ukraine.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Why is 14″ the standard snare size?
14 inches is the most common and versatile diameter: it pairs well with kits, gives a balanced sound and suits almost all styles. Standard heads and stands are designed for it.
Wood or metal?
Wood (maple, birch) — a warm balanced sound for most genres; metal (steel, brass, aluminium) — brighter, louder and crisper for rock and the stage. Many drummers have both.
Which depth is better — 5″ or 6.5″?
5–5.5″ — standard, a balanced versatile sound; 6.5″ — a more powerful 'fat' body; piccolo (3–4″) — a high, sharp tone. For a first snare, standard depth is convenient.
Which material for my style?
Maple — versatile; birch — recording; steel — rock and a loud stage; brass/bronze — a warm rich sound for the studio; aluminium — a classic. We'll suggest by genre.
What are the strainer and wires?
The strainer (throw-off) engages and disengages the snares; the wires under the bottom head give the characteristic 'crack'. The quality of the mechanism and wires affects sensitivity and sound.
Will a snare fit my kit?
Yes — 14″ mounts on a separate stand and is independent of the kit, so it fits any set. You can replace the stock snare or have several for different sounds.
A snare for upgrade or to start?
Replacing the snare is the most noticeable and cheapest sound upgrade. Beginners add a better snare, the experienced have several of different material and depth. The investment stays with you.
Which brands and where to buy?
Pearl, Ludwig (Supraphonic, Black Beauty), Tama, Yamaha, Mapex; DW, Sonor and boutique — to order. Selection by material and depth. Delivery across Ukraine; pickup in Kyiv. Phone +380 (73) 060 01 01.
