Overhead pickup for ensembles
The Audix ADX40W is designed for choirs, vocal groups, orchestras and theatrical productions. Its miniature white body hangs above the performers, keeping the stage area visually clear. This arrangement is useful where floor stands restrict movement or occupy space in front of an ensemble. Aim the capsule to suit the positions of the singers or instruments.
Cardioid pickup and positioning
The condenser capsule uses a cardioid pattern to help focus on a selected part of the ensemble. Its 40 Hz–20 kHz response covers speech, singing and instrumental material. The HANGER40 wire hanger positions the microphone overhead. Distance affects the balance between direct sound and room reflections, so check the final position during rehearsal.
Cable, adapter and power
The attached shielded cable measures 30 ft, approximately 9.14 m, and ends in a three-pin female mini-XLR connector. It connects to the supplied APS910 adapter, followed by a standard XLR microphone cable to the mixer. The microphone can operate with 48 V phantom power. Select the external mixer cable separately to suit the installation.
Included equipment
The package contains the microphone with attached cable, APS910 adapter, HANGER40 wire hanger, external foam windscreen and P1 carrying pouch. Use the windscreen where air movement may reach the capsule. After mounting, check microphone direction, gain and ensemble balance. Mute the channel before connecting or disconnecting the microphone to prevent loud switching transients.
