Five microphones for close drum pickup
The Audix DP5A brings together dedicated microphones for close drum pickup on stage and in the studio. The D6 covers kick drum, the i5 covers snare, two D2 microphones serve the rack toms and the D4 handles floor tom. Separate microphone signals let you adjust the level and tone of each drum at the mixing console.
Capsules and pickup patterns
All five microphones use Audix VLM dynamic capsules. The D6 and i5 have cardioid patterns, while the D2 and D4 use hypercardioid patterns. Their designs suit placement near loud percussion instruments. Directional pickup helps control spill from neighbouring drums. Adjusting distance and angle lets you balance the initial attack with the drum’s resonance.
Connection and positioning
Each microphone has a three-pin XLR output and connects to its own microphone input. The dynamic capsules need no phantom power. Prepare five inputs and suitable microphone cables to use the complete set simultaneously. Listen while the drummer plays to choose the D6 position inside or near the kick port and the angle of the microphones above the other drumheads.
Mounting accessories and case
The package includes four spring-loaded DVICE rim mounts, microphone clips and a carrying case. The mounts support compact placement around the snare and toms. Check each clamp, route cables clear of the sticks and set input gain at normal performance volume. Microphone cables and full-size stands are selected separately.
