Seven microphones for stage and studio
The Audix DP7 combines close drum pickup with an overhead view of the complete kit. It contains one D6 for kick, an i5 for snare, two D2 microphones for rack toms, a D4 for floor tom and two ADX51 overhead microphones. You can shape each drum separately, then blend in cymbals and the wider kit sound from the condensers.
Dynamic and condenser capsules
The D6, i5, D2 and D4 use Audix VLM dynamic capsules. The D6 and i5 have cardioid patterns; the D2 and D4 are hypercardioid. The cardioid ADX51 condensers capture cymbals and the overall drum sound. Each ADX51 has a −10 dB pad and a 150 Hz bass roll-off filter for adapting its response to the source.
Connection and power
Every microphone has a three-pin XLR output for a separate microphone input. The ADX51 condensers require phantom power; standard 48 V lies within their supported range. The dynamic microphones need no power. Prepare seven inputs and suitable cables for the complete configuration. Adjust overhead placement alongside the close microphones, listening for the balance between cymbals and snare.
Mounting and transport
Four DVICE mounts attach the snare and tom microphones to drum rims. Additional microphone clips and a carrying case are also supplied. Check stick clearance and set the gain of each channel at performance volume. Choose microphone cables, overhead stands and mixing equipment to suit the venue.
