Five microphones for close drum pickup
The Audix FP5 is a Fusion Series kit for close drum miking on stage, at rehearsal or during recording. It contains three f2 microphones for toms, one f5 for snare and one f6 for kick drum. Each microphone captures a separate source, allowing the drum balance to be adjusted on independent mixer channels.
Dynamic capsules for specific instruments
All five microphones use dynamic capsules and hypercardioid pickup patterns. The f2 also suits congas, bongos and other percussion; the f5 can cover guitar cabinets and acoustic sources. The f6 targets low-frequency instruments, including bass cabinets and cajon. Choose the distance and angle separately for each part of the kit, listening within the overall mix.
Connections and level checks
Three-pin XLR outputs feed microphone inputs on a mixer or audio interface. These dynamic microphones do not require phantom power. Prepare five channels and suitable cables for separate recording of all microphones. Set gain during the loudest hits, then listen to the channels together to balance attack, resonance and spill from neighbouring drums.
Clips, rim mounts and transport
The package includes four DCLIP microphone clips, one MC1 clip and four DFLEX rim mounts. These help position microphones near the intended sources, while the aluminium case keeps the components together between performances. Check that bodies and cables do not obstruct sticks or pedals. After use, inspect the mounts, disconnect cables and pack the microphones carefully into the case.
