Seven microphones for the drum kit
Audix FP7 combines seven Fusion Series microphones for performance, rehearsal and recording. Three dynamic f2 microphones cover rack and floor toms, the f5 handles snare, and the f6 serves kick drum and other low-frequency sources. Separate microphones let you adjust the principal parts of the kit independently while building the overall mix.
Two f9 condensers for overheads
The cardioid f9 pair can work above the kit as overheads, or one can cover hi-hat while the other captures the broader kit sound. They add cymbal detail and a sense of space to the close dynamic microphones. The f9 microphones require 12–48 V phantom power; the dynamic f2, f5 and f6 require no external power.
Placement and connection
The dynamic models have hypercardioid pickup patterns that help isolate individual drums. Connect the microphones through their XLR outputs to suitable microphone inputs. Check each channel separately, then listen to the combined sound. Adjusting distance and angle helps balance attack, resonance and room contribution, particularly when combining close microphones with the overhead pair.
Mounts and transport
The package includes six DCLIP microphone clips, one MC1 clip, four DFLEX drum-rim mounts and two WSF9 windscreens. An aluminium case keeps the microphones and accessories organised for storage and transport. Check the inventory after each session and return parts to their designated places. Select cables and separate microphone stands to suit your intended setup.
