Digital recording with an XLR microphone
IK Multimedia iRig Pre HD connects one microphone to a compatible smartphone, tablet or computer. It suits vocals, podcasts, interviews and acoustic instruments recorded with a microphone. This model provides an XLR microphone input and does not include a separate 1/4-inch guitar input.
Preamp and monitoring
The Class A preamp offers up to 40 dB of adjustable gain, while a multicolour LED helps set the signal level. The converters support 24-bit audio at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz. Switchable 48 V phantom power supports microphones that require it.
A 3.5 mm stereo headphone output has its own volume control. The Direct Monitor switch lets you hear the input without routing it through software processing, which is useful when recording speech or vocals.
Connections and power
The interface uses a Micro-USB port and a suitable cable for the connected computer or mobile device. It supports Mac, Windows and compatible iPhone and iPad devices. Android operation requires digital USB audio support and an appropriate cable. Compatibility depends on the device, operating system and recording application.
USB power is available when connected to a computer. Two AA batteries are required for 48 V phantom power. The unit measures 40 × 110 × 34 mm and weighs 75 g without batteries. Recording takes place in software on the connected device.
