"The viola requires a special approach — the sound must be warm and deep, but with sufficient projection. Quality strings are an investment in your sound."

🎻 Viola vs Violin — String Differences
| Parameter | Viola | Violin |
|---|---|---|
| Tuning | C-G-D-A (fifth lower) | G-D-A-E |
| String Length | ~38-42 cm | ~32.5 cm |
| Thickness | Thicker | Thinner |
| Tension | Higher | Lower |
| Sound Character | Warm, deep | Bright, ringing |
Important: Never put violin strings on a viola!
📏 String Tension Guide — How to Choose
| Tension | Characteristics | Recommended For |
|---|---|---|
| Soft / Light | Soft response, warm sound | Older instruments, beginners |
| Medium | Universal balance | Most instruments |
| Strong / Heavy | Powerful sound, more projection | Modern powerful violas |
How to determine the right tension:
- 🎯 Is your instrument "dark"? — try Strong for more brightness
- 🎯 Is it "bright"? — Soft or Medium for balance
- 🎯 Want more projection? — Strong adds power
- 🎯 Hands getting tired? — Soft makes playing easier
- 🎯 Not sure? — start with Medium
🎻 Viola Rosin — Recommendations
Properly matched rosin is just as important as strings. Here are our recommendations:
Top Rosins for Viola:

- D'Addario Kaplan — universal American rosin
Usage Rules:
- ✔️ Apply 2-3 strokes before playing
- ✔️ Wipe strings after playing
- ✔️ Store rosin in case
- ❌ Don't apply too much — it clogs strings
