Set of strings Thomastik Lakatos Pizzicato 4/4 for violin
Lakatos Pizzicato is a special-purpose Thomastik-Infeld range, developed in cooperation with the Hungarian violinist Roby Lakatos for gypsy and jazz playing and for pizzicato. It is described through four properties: tuning stability, direct response, an open and powerful sound, and a beautiful balance between the strings. The material combination is like no other series: the E is stainless steel, the A is chrome wound on a steel core, and the D and G sit on a synthetic core with aluminium and silver windings respectively. All four strings are ball end.

🏆 SoundsGood — genuine Thomastik-Infeld strings only, made in Vienna.
Built for the Plucking Hand, Not Only the Bow
In gypsy and jazz playing pizzicato is not an effect but a working technique: the string gets plucked hard and often. That is what this range was made for — the set is described as suitable for pizzicato and stable in tuning, meaning that after a run of sharp plucks the string comes back to pitch instead of settling slightly under it. In practice you are not reaching for the pegs and fine tuners between numbers.
Steel and Chrome Up Top: Direct Response, Sweat Resistance
The upper pair here is metal — a stainless steel E and an A with a chrome winding on a steel core. This is the only stainless steel E among these Thomastik ranges, and together with the chrome-wound A it delivers two things a long set needs: an immediate, direct response to both plectrum-hard pizzicato and the bow, and indifference to moisture when you play for hours without a break.
Synthetics Down Below to Keep the Set Musical
Were all four strings steel, the sound would come out harsh. Here the D and G sit on a synthetic core: the aluminium-wound D (4.6 kp) is agile and clear, while the silver-wound G is dense, with real mass in the bass. That is what produces the open, powerful sound with balance between the voices that keeps this range in restaurant and stage line-ups where the violin is not amplified.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is in the RL100 set?
Four 4/4 strings in medium gauge: a stainless steel E (art. RL01), an A with a chrome winding on a steel core (art. RL02), a synthetic-core aluminium-wound D at 4.6 kp (art. RL03), and a synthetic-core silver-wound G (art. RL04). All ball end.
What music is this set for?
The range was developed in cooperation with Roby Lakatos for gypsy and jazz playing and for heavy pizzicato use. Its stated properties are tuning stability, direct response, an open and powerful sound, and balance between the strings.
What tension do these strings have?
The maker no longer publishes a technical table for this range, so only one tension figure is confirmed — the D, RL03, at 4.6 kp (10.1 lb). Total set tension and the tensions of the E, A and G are not in the public data, and we are not going to invent them.
How does the RL01 E differ from other Thomastik E strings?
In material: this one is stainless steel, whereas Alphayue, Spirit!, Ti, Rondo and Dynamo all use tin-plated carbon steel. Stainless steel gives a firmer, more direct attack and takes contact with moisture in its stride.
Do these strings need a fine tuner?
Every string in the set is ball end, so they fit both a plain tailpiece and a ball-type fine tuner. There is no loop-end version in the range.
Are these genuine Thomastik strings?
Yes. SoundsGood supplies only genuine Thomastik-Infeld product in official packaging marked with article numbers.
