How 25.7 kp Is Spread Across Four Voices
Tension steps down evenly: 7.8 kp on the E, 6.5 on the A, 5.9 on the D and 5.5 kp on the G. The E is deliberately the tightest — the top voice has to take bow pressure in high positions, otherwise it hisses instead of speaking. Because the step between neighbours is small, the left hand does not have to recalibrate moving from A to D or from D to G: the same finger pressure gives the same pitch. The Aluminum E Is What Defines This Set
In set 15 the top string is wound with aluminum (art. 9), the lightest metal used anywhere in the line.
