Fonestar Speaker System Components — SoundsGood

Fonestar components support installation and control of installed speaker systems. Options include DOT-BOX boxes, DOT and AT attenuators and SAL-3503 mounts. Each group has its own compatibility criteria, so start with your system layout.

Check the intended use, connections and component compatibility.

Warranty and documents

Warranty conditions depend on the individual product.

Payment in instalments

Delivery in Ukraine

Nova Poshta delivery and Kyiv collection by prior arrangement.

Components for installation and local control

Fonestar accessories in this category help organise local volume control and equipment mounting. An attenuator, mounting box and speaker support perform different jobs, so select them separately while checking them within one project. Start with the room layout, loudspeaker list, amplifier and zones. Establish where users should adjust level and which areas need independent operation.

In a café, office or teaching space, panel position affects usability as much as appearance. Controls should be accessible to the intended user and clearly labelled. Agree names in advance where several areas have similar descriptions. Do not copy a circuit from another site without checking because its line types, loads and priority-message requirements may differ. A useful specification reflects the actual building and operating routine.

An attenuator is not an amplifier or routing matrix

An attenuator adjusts level in its intended circuit but does not create additional power or choose an arbitrary music source for a room. Different programmes in different zones require suitable routing before the controls. Installing a volume knob cannot correct an incorrectly connected speaker or an amplifier incompatible with the system.

Identify circuit type before selecting the model. Series names and suffixes can indicate different electrical arrangements. DOT-100TR documentation specifies a 100 V line; that information should not be assigned to every control with a similar panel. Check the individual documentation for AT-160R, AT-199R and other items. Match amplifier, loudspeaker and control requirements before running cable, particularly where installation will be concealed. Establish the required conductor count from the intended circuit rather than from appearance.

Determining the attenuator load

In a transformer-distributed system, determine a zone's load from its connected speakers and selected transformer taps. For example, four speakers each set to a 6 W tap produce a nominal total of 24 W. This is a starting value for assessment, not universal permission to use any control with a larger number in its name.

Check permitted input and output conditions, manufacturer requirements and the complete amplifier connection. Allow for planned expansion because adding cabinets or changing taps changes the load. A reduced knob position does not make an unsuitable combination acceptable. Where several zones share an amplifier, assess the overall arrangement as well as individual panels. Record the selected configuration with the actual speaker settings so future changes can be evaluated against a known baseline rather than an estimate.

Priority announcements and control logic

The requirement to deliver an important message independently of local volume should be defined during design. Compatible Fonestar models provide particular priority arrangements that need the correct wiring and control. Do not assume every attenuator automatically overrides its off position or works with any announcement controller.

Describe each zone's intended behaviour: normal music, local attenuation, a call and return to the earlier operating state. Use that sequence to check equipment and conductor requirements. Where a system performs a specialised announcement function, assess compliance across the project. One relay or a priority label does not establish every requirement for the finished installation. Acceptance testing should reproduce the actual scenarios instead of merely confirming that the knob turns and music changes level.

DOT-BOX, panel finish and installation space

DOT-BOX enclosures provide surface mounting for compatible DOT-series products. They perform a mechanical function and do not automatically include the required attenuator. Before ordering, check the box, panel, depth, cable entry and contents. Recessed and surface installation require different preparation, so choose the method before finishing the wall.

Confirm finish against the exact part number as well. The manufacturer updates some colour designations, so a familiar suffix in an older project needs checking against the current offer. This is not a reason to substitute a different model arbitrarily; agree the actual colour and compatibility. For SAL-3503, separately assess loudspeaker, load and wall suitability. A control mounting box and a loudspeaker wall support have different selection criteria and should not be reduced to one generic mounting check.

Complete ordering information and commissioning

For each zone, record loudspeaker models, settings, attenuator, box, colour and cables. Separately identify the amplifier and priority-signal method where required. Check quantities and separately purchased installation accessories. A small omitted item can delay completion even when the principal equipment is already available.

After installation, verify zone labels, control direction, available positions and absence of unexpected noise. Test all agreed modes using real sources and check that changing one area does not affect another unexpectedly. Keep the wiring diagram and load schedule. If speakers are added later, these records support a fresh compatibility check instead of relying on imperfect recollection of the original installation. Include the actual transformer settings in the record where they determine the connected load.

Before handover, explain each control and the normal start-up routine. State limitations arising from the agreed arrangement, such as a shared source across several zones. Clear labels and brief operating instructions help prevent accidental changes being mistaken for equipment failure. Practical handover is part of a useful installation because the person operating it may not be the person who designed or commissioned the circuit.

Selection guide

Attenuator and mounting box

Fonestar specifies 100 V line operation and DOT-BOX surface mounting for DOT-100TR. Match attenuator rating to the load and the box to the installation and compatible panel. An attenuator is not an amplifier.

Exact part number and compatibility

For replacement or expansion, provide the complete speaker model, generation and component part number. Similar appearance or matching diameter does not guarantee compatibility. Check the official supported-system list and package contents.

Mechanical and electrical requirements

Select a driver by mounting dimensions, impedance and suitability for the enclosure; choose hardware by mounting system and permitted load. Select a line attenuator by line type and connected loudspeaker power.

Replacement in an existing system

Identify the fault or limitation before ordering a part. A higher-powered replacement driver does not automatically improve a speaker: enclosure, filters and amplification must work together. Follow the system documentation for servicing.

Frequently asked questions

Is matching driver diameter sufficient?

No. Mounting and electrical parameters must match, along with enclosure and crossover compatibility.

Are mounting brackets and extension modules universal?

Not necessarily. Check the supported-system list for the exact part number.
