❗ Why the Right Soprano Mouthpiece

📐 Soprano = most demanding sax!

Smallest, highest pitch (Bb). Intonation = hardest among all saxophones! Wrong mouthpiece = out-of-tune + shrill. Right one = clean intonation + beautiful tone. On soprano, mouthpiece = 60%+ of sound!

📐 Not from alto!

Alto mouthpiece does NOT fit! Soprano = smaller bore, different chamber. Need "Soprano Sax" specific.

📐 Who plays soprano

Classical: orchestral solos, chamber. Jazz: Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Branford Marsalis, Kenny G. Soprano = second instrument for altoist/tenorist.

🎵 Classical (Ebonite)

📐 Vandoren Optimum AL3 ⭐⭐

THE STANDARD! Ebonite. Medium opening. ~$80–110. Recommendation #1. Excellent intonation. For orchestra, ensemble.

📐 Vandoren Optimum AL4

Slightly more open. More projection. ~$80–110.

📐 Selmer S80 C* ⭐

Classic! Warm tone. ~$60–90. Standard for Selmer/Yamaha players. Good for beginners.

📐 Selmer S90 / Concept

Modern series! ~$70–120. Improved chamber.

🎷 Jazz (Ebonite)

📐 Vandoren V5 S25 ⭐

Jazz standard! Warm with "soul." ~$70–100. Wayne Shorter style.

📐 Meyer Soprano ⭐

Jazz classic! "Fat" tone. ~$80–120.

📐 D'Addario Select Jazz

Modern! ~$60–90. Great value.

🔩 Metal Mouthpieces

📐 Yanagisawa Metal ⭐

Premium! Brass. Bright, powerful. ~$150–250. For jazz/fusion. Among the best metal for soprano.

📐 Otto Link Metal

Legend! "Vintage" tone. ~$100–180.

📐 ⚠️ Caution with metal!

Soprano is already bright. Metal = even brighter. Can be too shrill! For experienced only.

🔧 Parameters

📐 Tip opening

Soprano = smaller than alto/tenor. Smaller = easier intonation control. Start smaller!

📐 Ebonite vs metal

Ebonite = 80% of soprano players. Warm, control. Metal = bright, experienced only.

📐 Reed = partner!

Soprano reeds = smaller than alto! Don't mix up! Usually half-strength softer than alto.
