Splitters, Mergers & Multiplexers for Lighting
DMX signal combining, routing and backup — Swisson, Enttec, Showtec
Mergers, multiplexers and splitters are tools for processing and managing the DMX signal. Mergers combine two sources into one output (HTP/LTP modes) and provide console backup, multiplexers select and route sources, and splitters split the signal into several lines. Together they let you build reliable systems with several operators, zones and backup sources. At SoundsGood — Swisson, Enttec, Showtec, Botex, DMX King. Delivery across Ukraine.

🧩 Types of signal-management devices
🔀 Splitter (1 → many)
Splits and regenerates one DMX signal into several independent lines to fixtures. Often optoisolated.
🔗 Merger (many → 1)
Combines two (or more) DMX sources into one output in HTP or LTP mode. For two consoles on a line.
🔀 Multiplexer / router
Selects and routes several sources to the required outputs; matrices switch inputs × outputs arbitrarily.
🛟 Backup (failover)
Monitors the main source and automatically switches to a backup on failure. Show reliability.
🎯 How to choose a merger or multiplexer
🔢 Inputs and outputs
How many sources you need to combine or route and how many outputs your system needs.
⚖️ Merge mode
HTP for intensity, LTP for position and colour. Better — mode selection per channel range.
🛟 Backup
For demanding shows — a merger with priority and automatic switching to a backup source.
🛡️ Optoisolation
Protection of console and fixtures from interference and 'ground loops', especially on long runs.
🔁 RDM support
Merging complicates RDM. If you need remote addressing — choose RDM-compatible models.
🛡️ Brand and mounting
Swisson, Enttec, Showtec, Botex, DMX King. Rack 19″, compact or DIN — for your mounting.

❓ Frequently asked questions
What is a DMX merger?
A device that combines two (sometimes more) DMX sources into one output — for two consoles on a line, adding a backup or architectural controller. Works in HTP or LTP modes.
What are HTP and LTP merge?
HTP ('highest wins') takes the larger value from the sources — logical for intensity. LTP ('latest wins') takes the value of the last-changed source — logical for moving-head position, colour, gobo.
What is a DMX multiplexer?
A device for selecting and routing a signal: it receives several sources and directs the required one to the required outputs; matrix routers switch inputs × outputs arbitrarily. Unlike a merger — it selects rather than combines.
How does this differ from splitters/Art-Net?
Splitters and Art-Net are 1→several distribution and network gateways. Here it's combining (mergers), selection and routing (multiplexers). In a system all links complement each other.
Why source backup (failover)?
Failover: the merger monitors the main console and automatically switches to a backup on failure. Critical for concerts, performances and broadcasts where loss of control is unacceptable.
Do they affect RDM?
Yes, combining two sources complicates the RDM return channel. Not all mergers support pass-through RDM — consider this if you plan remote addressing. We'll suggest RDM-compatible models.
Which brands?
Swisson, Enttec, Showtec, Botex, Eurolite, DMX King — 2→1 mergers, multiplexers, matrix routers and combo splitter-mergers with backup, optoisolation and RDM.
Delivery and tenders?
Delivery across Ukraine by Nova Poshta; free from ₴4,000. Pickup — Kyiv and Lviv. Instalments up to 12 payments. We work via Prozorro tenders for theatres and cultural institutions.
