A String Pirastro Evah Pirazzi 4/4 for Violin
The A string from the Evah Pirazzi set, sold on its own: a synthetic multifilament core with an aluminium winding, medium tension — 5.6 kp, 4/4 size, Pirastro article 419221. The A carries most of the melodic work in first position, and it is the first string to lose overtones to finger contact. Buying it separately lets you refresh it without replacing the whole set. Handmade in Germany.

🏆 SoundsGood — genuine Pirastro strings only, handmade in Germany.
Why the A wears out first
The A lives in the busiest zone of the fingerboard and takes the most sweat, rosin and friction — its winding degrades faster than the D or G. The first sign is a dulling tone: overtones smear, intonation in third position stops being reliable, and yet the string is nominally in tune. Replacing one string restores clarity without disturbing the balance of the other three.
Aluminium winding: transparency instead of mass
Pirastro winds the A in aluminium rather than silver, and it is a deliberate choice. Aluminium is lighter, so it does not load the string with extra mass and leaves the mid-range open and transparent. On a dense silver winding the same note would read darker and heavier — right for the D and G, wrong for the voice that carries the melody.
5.6 kp: how it sits in the set
5.6 kp is medium tension — exactly what the factory set 419021 uses. A new string therefore drops into an already balanced instrument without skew: bridge pressure and total load stay as designed. If your violin is strung soft or stark, buy the A in that same tension so one voice does not end up limp or choked.

What's Included
The pack contains one A string in a branded Pirastro envelope marked with the article number, note and tension. For a full re-string you will also need 313221 (E), 419321 (D) and 419421 (G) — or the ready set 419021.
Who It's For
A string for the player who burns through A faster than the rest of the set: the performing violinist rehearsing daily, the teacher keeping an instrument playable year-round, and the musician assembling a hybrid set from different lines for one specific violin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this A with strings from a different line?
Yes, mixing lines is common practice. What matters is matching the size (4/4) and keeping tensions compatible: this medium A pulls 5.6 kp, and the rest of the set should be comparable in load.
What end does it have?
A ball end — standard for the A, D and G strings in this line. Pirastro's ball/loop choice applies only to the E string.
Why aluminium rather than silver?
Aluminium is lighter than silver and does not load the string with mass, so the mid-range stays open and transparent. Pirastro reserves silver for the D and G, where density and a dark timbre are the point.
How do I know the A needs replacing?
The tone dulls, overtones turn muddy, intonation drifts in the upper positions, and you can usually see flat spots or wear on the winding under the fingers.
Is this different from the A in set 419021?
No — it is the same string, the same article 419221 and the same 5.6 kp tension. The only difference is that here it is sold on its own.
Is this a genuine Pirastro string?
Yes. SoundsGood supplies only genuine Pirastro product, handmade in Germany, in branded envelopes marked with article numbers.
