The A string from the Evah Pirazzi Gold set, sold on its own: synthetic core, aluminium winding, 5.5 kp, mittel gauge, 4/4 size, article 415221, ball end. It is the only aluminium string in the Gold set, and the reason is simple — the light metal sits in a thin layer and does not muffle the middle register where most of the first-position melodic work lives. That same aluminium makes the A the most vulnerable string of the four: it wears under the fingers faster than silver, so the A is usually the first one a player renews. Buying it separately restores a fresh middle without touching the D, G or E.

Why Aluminium On The A

Aluminium is the lightest metal Pirastro uses in this series, so the winding stays thin and adds almost no inertia to the string. In practice the A answers the bow faster than the lower strings and stays transparent in double stops, where a denser metal would cloud the middle. This is the string that shows most clearly how accurately you are drawing the bow.

5.5 kp In The Gold Set's Balance

After the E, the A carries the largest share of tension — 5.5 kp out of 23.0 kp in the gold-G set, or 23.1 kp in the silver-G one. Under the left hand that reads as even resistance: crossing from E to A does not drop away, and the vibrato needs no change of effort. Put a different gauge in that slot and the whole set drifts out of balance, which is why the separate Gold A exists in mittel only.

One String Instead Of A Whole Set

Article 415221 is the very A fitted in sets 415021, 415025, 415091 and 415095, so it works with any Gold configuration regardless of whether your G is gold or silver and how the E is terminated. When the rest of the set is still alive but the middle has lost its overtones, this one replacement brings the whole set back.
