Eight microphones for a drum kit
Superlux DRKF5H3 is a drum microphone set with a defined role for each model. It covers kick, three toms, snare and hi-hat, alongside two overhead microphones for the overall kit sound. This arrangement lets you plan placement around individual parts of the drum performance and work on their balance in the mix.
The exact microphone selection
The set contains two HO8 overhead microphones, one FK2 for kick, three FT4 for toms, one FS6 for snare and one HI10 for hi-hat. These eight microphones provide a clear starting point for assigning each part of the kit. Their model names make it easier to organise the setup and identify the microphone intended for each source.
Recording and sound reinforcement setup
Plan the kit, performer and microphone positions, then listen to each source separately. Check the combined sound next, particularly the relationship between overheads and close microphones. Working distance and direction affect the balance between a drum and nearby instruments, so make final placement decisions while the drummer plays. Plan sufficient microphone inputs when recording all eight signals separately at the same time.
Storage and session organisation
The microphones are supplied in a plastic carrying case for storage and transport. Check all eight positions before setup and return each microphone after the session. Select cables, stands and connections for the actual kit and equipment. Individual microphones can also serve other instrument recording tasks with appropriate placement and listening checks.
