🇪🇺 About Thore: European Craftsmanship Since 1998
The Kraslice region (Czech Republic) has been renowned for wind instrument manufacturing since the 18th century. In 1998, the Thore brand was founded here, uniting Czech, Prague and Budapest woodwind-making traditions.
🏭 Manufacturing
Kraslice is a town with a centuries-old instrument-making heritage. Thore combines local artisans' hand craftsmanship with modern precision manufacturing technology. Every instrument undergoes thorough quality control before shipping.
🤝 OBOISSIMO Cooperation (from 2020)
Since 2020, Thore oboes and English horns have been produced in close cooperation with RZ manufacture and specialists Jan Hoďánek and Dominik Bunc from the OBOISSIMO team. This partnership has elevated the instruments to the highest level of construction, playing comfort, intonation and sound quality.

🔬 Hybrid Line — Thore's Innovative Solution
💡 The Hybrid Concept
The upper joint is made from high-quality synthetic material that responds like natural grenadilla but is resistant to humidity changes and extreme temperatures. Lower joint and bell remain classic grenadilla. Result: lighter, more airy feel while maintaining the highest standard of full, compact sound.
🎵 Moderato *H (TZ-0001-H)
Intermediate/professional model with hybrid construction. Same specifications as the classic Moderato but with a synthetic upper joint. Ideal for musicians playing in varying climatic conditions.
🏆 Presto *H (TZ-0002-H)
Orchestral model with hybrid construction. All Presto features (third octave key, left-hand F, double correspondence) with the advantages of a synthetic upper joint.
🎵 Thore English Horn
🏆 English Horn (TZ-0012-3)
Professional model in grenadilla seasoned minimum 6 years. Semi-automatic silver-plated keywork. French-style bore. Very flexible low register. Keywork similar to Thore oboes — for musicians who regularly play both instruments. All trill keys, third octave key, left-hand F, low B resonance key. Two silver-plated bocals included.
🎶 Thore Bassoons
🎵 Student Bassoon (TZ-0003-1)
C bassoon with simplified keywork for small hands. Long-time matured maple, high-gloss lacquer. Rubber tube extensions. 24 keys, high C. Covered holes. 2 rollers, balance holder. 2 standard bocals. Case and cleaning set.
🏆 Professional Bassoon (TZ-0004-1)
Standard orchestral model. Matured maple, matt-gloss lacquer. 25 keys, high C and D, 4 trill keys, 9 rollers. Automatic G ring key, double low C touch, thumb Ab, Eb vent, piano lock. 2 professional bocals. Silver-plated keywork. Case.
🎶 Thore Contrabassoon
🏆 Contrabassoon Professional
Professional contrabassoon with low Bb, high D and E. Double Ab, E-flat and F# keys. Matured maple. Silver-plated keywork. For symphony orchestras and large ensembles. One of the few contemporary European contrabassoon manufacturers at a competitive price.
🎶 Thore Flutes
🌟 Thore Flutes
A separate flute range under the Thore Flutes brand (thore-flutes.com). Continuing Kraslice's tradition of metal wind instrument manufacturing. Student and professional models.
🪵 Thore Materials
🌳 Grenadilla (Dalbergia melanoxylon)
African blackwood — the traditional material for professional oboes. Extremely dense, with warm tone and excellent projection. Thore uses grenadilla seasoned for at least 6 years. Unstained natural finish to preserve acoustic properties.
🖤 Ebonite
For the student Dacapo model. Moisture- and temperature-resistant. Does not crack. Durable and long-lasting. Ideal for beginners still learning proper instrument care.
🧪 Synthetic (Hybrid)
High-quality polymer for the upper joint of Hybrid oboes. Responds like natural grenadilla but resists climate changes. For tropical, arctic and variable conditions.
🪵 Maple
Matured maple for bassoons and contrabassoon. Warm, rich timbre with excellent projection in large halls.
