🏭 Warwick RockBass — Accessible Germany
Warwick Since 1982
Warwick was founded in 1982 by Hans-Peter Wilfer in Erlangen, Bavaria, the son of Fred Wilfer who had founded the legendary Framus brand. From day one the focus was on exotic tonewoods, German manufacturing precision and proprietary MEC electronics. The Thumb Bass (1985), Streamer, Corvette and Dolphin defined the modern bass guitarist's instrument.
RockBass Since 2002
The RockBass series launched in 2002 as a best-of collection of the most popular Warwick models for a wider audience. Designed in Markneukirchen, built in vetted partner workshops in China. After production: 100% quality control and factory setup at the Warwick headquarters in Markneukirchen. The fully revised 2024 lineup brings RockBass closer to the German Pro Series than at any previous point in its history.
2024 Update
In 2024 Warwick carried out a comprehensive redesign of the RockBass lineup: improved fret dressing, enhanced craftsmanship, revised pickup mounting system, refined body contours. Titanium-brass alloy frets with IFT. The series now sits closer to the German-made instruments than ever before in the line's history.
Three Tiers of Warwick
RockBass — designed in Germany, built in China, set up in Markneukirchen. German Pro Series (Teambuilt) — built in Markneukirchen by the Warwick team builders. Custom Shop / Masterbuilt — the pinnacle of the craft, exotic tonewoods, individual orders. RockBass is the best entry point into the Warwick world.
🎸 Warwick RockBass Corvette
Corvette has been the most popular model in the Warwick catalogue since 1992. Bright, raw and punchy, with a midrange and upper-frequency emphasis that has made it the instrument of choice for rock and funk bassists worldwide.
Corvette Basic (4- & 5-String)
The most accessible entry point into RockBass. Alder body, 3-piece laminated maple neck with carbon reinforcement bars, wenge fingerboard, 24 titanium-brass alloy frets with IFT. Active MEC J/J pickups, active 2-band electronics. Just-A-Nut III, Warwick 3D bridge, Security Locks. 34" scale. Available in 4- and 5-string configurations, including fretless (Tigerstripe Ebony fingerboard) and left-handed versions.
Corvette Basic Medium Scale (32")
A Corvette Basic with a shorter 32" scale length — ideal for players with smaller hands or guitarists making the transition to bass. The same body, neck and electronics as the standard Basic in a more compact format. Available in 4- and 5-string configurations.
Corvette $$ (Double Buck)
The "Double Buck" — two MEC humbuckers delivering a more powerful, tight and aggressive tone compared to the J/J configuration of the Basic. Ash body, maple neck with wenge fingerboard. The iconic RockBass flagship for heavy rock and metal. Available in 4- and 5-string configurations.
Corvette Multiscale (5-String)
An innovative variant with fanned frets (34"–35.5"): each string has its optimum scale length for maximum intonation accuracy and tonal clarity. Alder body with Poplar Burl veneer, wenge fingerboard (26" radius), MEC Soapbar pickups, active 2-band electronics. The definitive RockBass for 5-string players who demand the best possible B string.
🔷 Warwick RockBass Streamer
The Streamer features an elegant, ergonomic body shape inspired by the original Spector NS. A slimmer neck profile and a more versatile tonal character than the Corvette — from warm, round lows to assertive mids.
Streamer Standard
Carolina Pine body, 3-piece laminated maple neck, wenge fingerboard, 24 IFT frets. Passive MEC Vintage Humbucker pickups, active 2-band electronics. Just-A-Nut III, 3D bridge, Security Locks. 34" scale. Available in 4- and 5-string variants, including fretless (Tigerstripe Ebony fingerboard). Warmer and softer tonal character than the Corvette.
Streamer LX
A more advanced Streamer with improved tonewood selection, pickup configuration and overall fit and finish. The Streamer LX is the choice for players who need maximum versatility: from funk and soul to jazz and post-rock. The German-made Streamer was the instrument of choice for Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai and P-Nut of 311.
🧛 Warwick RockBass Vampyre & Fortress
Vampyre — Aggressive Design
The Vampyre is the most visually unconventional model in the RockBass line: sharp body cutaways, dark aesthetics and an aggressive midrange-forward tone. The natural choice for metal, hard rock and players who need an instrument that matches their heavy music both visually and sonically.
Fortress — Classic Strength
The Fortress is one of Warwick's original models from the late 1980s and early 1990s. The RockBass Fortress retains the characteristic body shape and tonal identity of the original: solid, tight low end and excellent note articulation. For players who appreciate classic Warwick heritage in an accessible format.
🌟 Warwick RockBass Star Bass & Infinity
Star Bass — Semi-Hollow Warwick
The Star Bass is the most unusual model in the RockBass lineup. Its semi-hollow body delivers a warm, resonant and acoustically rich tone that is simply impossible to achieve with a solid-body instrument. The ideal choice for jazz, blues and players who want the Warwick quality in a fundamentally different tonal character.
RockBass Infinity 5-String
The Infinity features an elegant semi-hollow construction that provides not only a warm, resonant sound but also noticeably reduced weight. The RockBass Infinity 5 is for experienced players seeking a refined alternative to conventional solid-body basses. Distinctive body shape and premium aesthetics.
🎻 Warwick RockBass Triumph Lite
Triumph Lite — Electric Upright Bass
The RockBass Triumph Lite is a reimagining of the legendary Warwick Triumph Upright Bass in the accessible RockBass format. An electric upright bass for players who want the sound and feel of an acoustic double bass in a compact, reliable instrument. The ideal choice for jazz, rockabilly and acoustic performances.
⭐ Warwick RockBass Artist Line
The RockBass Artist Line delivers affordable signature instruments developed in collaboration with iconic bass players. The same body shapes and tonal identity as the German-made signature models — at a RockBass price.
Robert Trujillo Signature (4- & 5-String)
Metallica's Robert Trujillo signature bass brought to the RockBass format. Massive, powerful tone built for heavy metal. Specification and tonal character personally approved by Trujillo. Available in 4- and 5-string configurations.
Bootsy Collins SpaceBass
The iconic star-shaped Bootsy Collins SpaceBass — with brilliant funky tone and a distinctive look. SpaceBass in the RockBass format makes the aesthetic and funky character of the funk legend accessible without the price tag of the German Custom Shop.
Steve Bailey Signature (4, 5 & 6-String)
The Steve Bailey signature model — designed by and for a renowned fretless bass master. Built for fretless players who demand precise intonation control and a smooth legato character. One of very few 6-string RockBass models in the catalogue.
P-Nut (311), Jack Bruce, Adam Clayton (U2), Lee Sklar
P-Nut — 4 and 5-string models for dynamic rock/reggae-funk. Jack Bruce — inspired by the original 1988 Thumb Bass. Adam Clayton — the U2 bassist's signature model. Lee Sklar — the unique SklarBass I with a mahogany/AAA Flamed Maple body, Producer Switch and Tigerstripe Ebony fingerboard.
⚙️ Key Technologies of Warwick RockBass
Just-A-Nut III (Tedur)
An adjustable nut made from Tedur material — excellent tonal neutrality and dimensional stability. A 1.5 mm Allen key allows the height of each string over the first fret to be set precisely. Introduced by Warwick in 2007 and standard on RockBass from 2008. Eliminates the need to file the nut when changing string gauges.
2-Piece Warwick 3D Bridge
Warwick's unique bridge design with three levels of adjustment: individual saddle height for each string, string spacing and intonation. The break angle ensures optimum tone transfer to the body. One of the secrets behind the famous Warwick growl.
MEC Pickups & Electronics
MEC (Music Electronic Company) is Warwick's own pickup and electronics division. RockBass instruments use MEC J/J, Humbucker or Soapbar pickups depending on the model. Active 2-band electronics (Treble/Bass) with copper-shielded cavity for minimal noise.
IFT — Invisible Fret Technology
IFT is a Warwick patent in which fret ends are ball-shaped, eliminating the sensation of sharp fret ends under the fingers when shifting position. Frets are made from a titanium-brass alloy that is harder and more durable than standard nickel silver. Standard on all RockBass models from 2024 onwards.
Carbon Reinforcement Bars in the Neck
Two carbon reinforcement bars running through the neck (from the 12th to the 24th fret) significantly increase neck rigidity and resistance to twisting, and reduce sensitivity to temperature and humidity changes. Minimal neck relief variation between seasons means a stable setup all year round.
Warwick Security Locks & RED Strings
Every RockBass ships with Security Locks (strap locks) — to ensure the instrument stays securely attached to the strap during performance. Also included: Warwick RED Strings (.045–.105) — Warwick's own strings, ready to play straight out of the box.

🎯 How to Choose Your Warwick RockBass
🎸 Rock / metal / funk — bright, punchy tone
Corvette Basic or Corvette $$ — the definitive RockBass choice for heavy music. The Basic with J/J pickups is brighter and more cutting. The $$ with dual humbuckers is more powerful and tighter. Both are industry standards in rock and metal.
🎷 Jazz / blues / versatile playing
Streamer Standard or LX — a warmer tonal character and a slimmer neck than the Corvette. The right instrument for fingerstyle players and those who need maximum versatility. Star Bass — for a true jazz semi-acoustic sound.
🖤 Dark metal aesthetics
Vampyre — the natural choice for metal and hard rock on both looks and tone. Aggressive body shape, powerful humbuckers, dark finishes.
✋ Smaller hands / transitioning from guitar
Corvette Basic Medium Scale (32") — the shorter scale reduces hand stretch and tension. The ideal starting point for teenagers or guitarists making the move to bass.
🎻 5-string with the best possible B string
Corvette Multiscale 5 with fanned frets (34"–35.5") — the extra 1.5" of scale on the B string delivers clear tension and precise intonation even in drop tunings. The best RockBass for 5-string players.
🎼 Fretless playing
Corvette Basic Fretless or Streamer Standard Fretless — both feature a Tigerstripe Ebony fingerboard instead of wenge. Warwick fretless basses are renowned for their smoothness, expressive legato slides and classic mwah tone.
⭐ I want my hero's tone
Artist Line: Robert Trujillo (Metallica) — for metal. Bootsy Collins SpaceBass — for funk. Steve Bailey — for fretless. P-Nut (311) — for rock/reggae-funk. Adam Clayton (U2) — for rock/pop. Lee Sklar — for session work and versatile playing.
🎻 Upright bass tone without an acoustic instrument
Triumph Lite — an electric upright bass in the RockBass format. For jazz, rockabilly, acoustic performances and anyone who wants to explore upright bass technique on an accessible instrument.
