For drums and instruments
The Audix D2 is a dynamic instrument microphone for live sound and studio recording. Its VLM diaphragm captures the attack and character of toms, congas and other percussion instruments. The compact body fits into a busy drum setup, while the same microphone can also be used on guitar cabinets, saxophone and brass.
Focused pickup and positioning
A hypercardioid pickup pattern helps reduce sound arriving from nearby instruments. On a drum, moving the capsule relative to the head and rim changes the balance of attack, overtones and decay. At a guitar cabinet, moving from the speaker centre towards its edge offers another way to shape the recorded tone. Listen to the placement within the complete mix.
Construction and connection
The black anodized aluminium body carries a steel mesh grille and a three-pin male XLR connector. Its balanced output connects to a microphone input on a mixer, preamp or audio interface. The D2 requires no phantom power. Mute the channel before connecting or disconnecting the cable, then set the input gain for the instrument being recorded.
Included mounting accessories
The package contains one Audix D2 microphone, a DCLIP holder and a P1 carrying pouch. The holder secures the body on a microphone stand and allows the capsule to be aimed at the sound source. Choose a stand and microphone cable separately to suit the installation. The pouch provides convenient storage between sessions and performances.
