Cymbals and acoustic instruments
The Audix f9 is a compact Fusion Series condenser microphone for stage and studio use. Applications include cymbals, hi-hat, percussion, acoustic instruments and drum overheads. Its frequency range is 40 Hz–20 kHz. Use it to capture fast attacks and upper-frequency detail, or to record the room sound from a carefully chosen position.
Capsule and cardioid pickup
A 16 mm pre-polarized capsule uses a gold-vapour diaphragm. Cardioid pickup helps focus on the instrument while reducing sound from behind. Select distance and angle for the source: cymbals allow more distant placement than a quiet acoustic guitar. Listen to the result in context, taking room acoustics and the positions of other microphones into account.
XLR connection and phantom power
The balanced three-pin male XLR output connects to a microphone input on a mixer, preamp or audio interface. Operation requires 12–48 V phantom power; a standard 48 V supply is suitable. If the equipment cannot provide phantom power, use a separate compatible supply. Mute the channel before connecting or disconnecting the cable, then check signal and gain.
Body and supplied accessories
The cylindrical zinc-alloy body has a black finish and a compact shape for stand mounting. One f9 is supplied with a DCLIP mounting clip and P1 carrying pouch. Choose a cable, stand and specialist shock mount separately for your recording setup. After use, inspect the connector, remove the microphone carefully and store it in its pouch.
