One microphone for many instruments
The Audix i5 is a dynamic instrument microphone for live sound and recording. It can cover snare drums, toms, percussion, guitar and bass cabinets, as well as brass and woodwind instruments. Its VLM diaphragm and 50 Hz to 16 kHz response make the same model useful across different sources during rehearsals, concerts and studio sessions.
Cardioid pickup and tonal choices
The cardioid pattern helps focus on the instrument in front of the microphone while reducing pickup from surrounding sources. On a snare drum, aiming towards the centre or rim changes the balance of attack and overtones. At a guitar cabinet, moving from the speaker centre towards its edge changes brightness. Distance also affects the balance of direct and room sound.
Metal body and XLR output
A black zinc-alloy body and protective grille house the capsule. The three-pin male XLR connector links by cable to a microphone input on a mixer, preamp or audio interface. The i5 needs no phantom power. After choosing the position, adjust input gain at the receiving device and leave room for louder passages and stronger drum hits.
Mounting and storage
The package contains one Audix i5, an MC1 microphone clip and a P1 carrying pouch. The clip secures the body on a microphone stand for precise aiming. Select the stand and audio cable separately to suit the installation. Mute the channel before connecting or disconnecting the microphone, then store it in the pouch between sessions.
