Cardioid microphone for recording
The Audix SCX1 is designed for studio recording, broadcast and live sound. This cardioid version suits acoustic strings, piano, orchestral sections, percussion, overheads and group vocals. Its frequency range is 40 Hz–20 kHz. The compact body helps you position it near an instrument or above a drum kit while leaving the performer room to move.
Capsule and construction
The microphone combines a modular 21 mm gold-vapor capsule with miniaturized electronics. Its machined brass body has a black finish. The cardioid pattern lets you aim towards the source and manage how much room sound enters the recording. Adjust distance and angle while listening to both the direct sound and reflections to find the desired tonal balance.
XLR and phantom power
A three-pin male XLR output connects to a microphone input on a mixer, preamp or audio interface. The SCX1 requires 48–52 V phantom power, with 48 V recommended by the manufacturer. Mute the channel before connecting and set input gain after choosing the microphone position. A separate phantom supply can serve equipment that does not provide suitable power.
Package and placement
The package includes one microphone, a DCLIP microphone clip, windscreen and protective carrying case. Fit the clip to a suitable stand. With acoustic instruments, begin at a moderate distance and find the balance between detail and room acoustics. For overhead use, consider distances from the snare and listen to the combined channels. Choose the stand and XLR cable separately.
