Overheads, vocals and instruments
Superlux HO8 is a back-electret condenser microphone for stage use and studio recording. It suits drum overheads, vocals, acoustic guitar, strings and brass. The supercardioid pickup pattern helps focus on the selected sound source. Position it to suit the job: capturing a drum kit and recording a nearby singer require different approaches.
Connection and phantom power
A three-pin male XLR output connects by microphone cable to a suitable mixer, preamplifier or audio interface input. The microphone requires phantom power and works with 48 V. Lower the channel level before connecting, then enable phantom power and set gain at the actual performance level.
Finding the right position
Start by choosing the distance and angle to the source, then assess the tone through headphones or monitors. For drums, listen to the balance between cymbals and the rest of the kit. With vocals, check breath noise and the singer’s position. Small placement changes help balance direct sound against the room’s acoustics.
Holder and storage
The package includes one HO8, a microphone holder and a pouch. Fit the holder to a suitable stand, adjust the angle and route the cable without tension. After use, lower the channel level, switch off phantom power and disconnect the cable. Store the microphone in its pouch to keep the grille and connector clean.
